What If You Are Not Currently ISO 14001 Certified? 

ISO 14001:2026 may still provide a useful framework where customers, procurement teams or supply chains expect stronger environmental assurance. For technology businesses, that can be particularly relevant where tenders or supplier questionnaires ask for environmental policies, carbon information, reduction plans or evidence of structured environmental management. 

Certification does not have to be the starting point. Begin with the environmental and commercial requirements the organisation needs to address, then determine whether ISO 14001 provides useful structure and whether independent certification would add value.

Digital sustainability focuses specifically on the environmental impact of technology and digital operations. ISO 14001 provides the wider management framework through which significant environmental impacts can be governed, measured and improved.
