Integrating Sustainability into Business Operations.

27 February 2024

2024 got off to a very Sustainable start for KA2. In January, we acquired an exclusive licence of the no-code decision engine from Moose-beast Software to power our new Carbon Rating Engine. The CRE contains the world’s largest repository of manufacturer and COzPro’s generic carbon data for IT assets and delivers automated Scope 2 and 3 granular information to support our customers’ sustainability journeys. Using this exciting new addition to the COzPro Solution, we have enabled a global financial institution to create a carbon impact baseline for their hardware asset estate, and we are running a PoC to support the Government’s Digital Greening Agenda, demonstrating the power of good asset data to drive sustainability, operating efficiencies, cost reduction and improved security.

On a personal level, KA2’s CEO, Chriss Andrews, has just been voted Most Empowering ESG Tech Innovations CEO – UK by SME magazine. And she was accepted as a Member of SustainableIT.orgthis month, where she is already involved in contributing to the future of sustainability innovation and best practices alongside the world’s leading proponents of sustainable IT and the circular economy.

Her key takeaways from a recent Member round table event “Establishing ESG baselines for IT”were:

  • Start small– sustainability is a journey of continual improvement and creating a baseline, however imperfect, is the first step to measuring and managing the impact of your technology on the planet.
  • 100% accuracy is not important– while precision matters, fixating on minutiae can distract you from the bigger picture, so focus on trends and overarching goals rather than boiling the ocean.
  • Dashboards are great– they can provide a powerful overview but how you interpret and act upon the underlying data is more important to drive efficiencies and sustainable behaviours.
  • You are not starting your sustainability journey from scratch– you are already managing data governance, risk, vendors, and hardware assets, so build a holistic approach by joining up your existing systems of record and processes and eliminating duplication.
  • Draw up an action plan– look at what IT projects are already in flight or planned for 2024 and review how you can make them more sustainable through purchasing decisions, ethical disposal of assets, aligning vendors with your corporate ESG vision, assessing asset energy efficiencies and greener energy options.
  • Make sustainability part of your organisation’s DNA– the key to driving a greener operating model is defining sustainability responsibility in your IT organisation through executive sponsorship, focused job functions, education and business stakeholder engagement.

So, these are a few suggestions on how organisations can start their sustainability journey in 2024 and reduce IT waste, costs and carbon impact. If you would like to discuss how you can create your own actionable strategy, we are here to help.

Chriss and Jean-Marc Jefferson, KA2 Head of Sustainability and Innovation, are delighted to attend the edie awards on the 6th of March, representing KA2 and COzPro, our revolutionary Sustainability solution, as a finalist in the Product Innovation of the Year: Software, Systems & Services category. And in April they will join forces again to head to Olympia for the Innovation NetZero Exhibitionwhere they will meet up with other innovators in the Sustainability world to share ideas and collaborate on future projects.
