Net Zero

As a ServiceNow Partner, it is great to see that ServiceNow is playing its part in achieving Carbon Net-Zero operations by 2030. However, it is vitally important that we all focus on our personal and corporate responsibilities to safeguard our planet for current and future generations.

And the current story is not good!  In 2019, the amount of e-waste produced globally grew to around 49.8 million tonnes per annum.  And much of this e-waste is ending up in landfills when a large amount of it could and should be recycled.  Left unchecked, this could more than double to an eye-watering 120 million tonnes by 2050!  And with our growing reliance on all thing’s tech, we continue to create a massive issue in manufacture, distribution, and disposal.  And built-in obsolescence only adds to the carbon footprint problem.

So, what can we do to help?  At a minimum, we should opt for brands whose products are built to last, and we should demand longer service life, more extended warranties, and guaranteed spare parts in our personal and business lives. In addition, we should ask questions about the manufacturing and distribution process to understand the environmental impact of our e-asset before purchase and how we can ensure that its operational lifespan in our possession is as long and efficient as it can be. And of course, the disposal process is key to ensuring that we heed Annie Leonard’s words – “There is no such thing as ‘away’.  When we throw anything away, it must go somewhere.” And that ‘somewhere’ is a critical part of the e-asset sustainable journey.

Working with Andrew Gomarsall and Jean-Marc Jefferson at N2S has been a real education into e-waste recycling.  They are market leaders in sustainable IT disposal using a unique approach to recycling resulting in 0% of e-assets going to landfills through resale/reuse and innovating environmentally friendly processes for extracting rare and precious metals from redundant technology.  Bioleaching is a truly fascinating process, even for the non-scientific amongst us!

As part of our sustainability commitments and goals, KA2 has partnered with N2S to use our combined expertise to develop a unique service for the secure, sustainable, and auditable management of the corporate e-asset lifecycle.

We are using the power of the ServiceNow platform and its workflows to reduce complexity, waste, and cost, and provide transparent and supportable ESG metrics.

We applaud ServiceNow for its mission to become a Carbon Net-Zero business by 2030 and offer them our support as a responsible ServiceNow Partner to build a circular and sustainable economy.
